about us

Lisa A. Cervantes is the founder and owner of IP Legal Studio, LLC, a private entertainment law practice since 1999.  The firm specializes in film, TV and music, licensing, clearing and resolving various intellectual property disputes for creatives, such as artists, directors, producers and entertainment businesses worldwide.  IP Legal Studio, LLC helps entities of all sizes to protect, license, assert and defend rights in trademarks, copyrights and trade secrets.

Lisa grew up in Kauai, Hawaii where she enjoyed the ocean, hiking, lei-making and creative arts centered on her intense appreciation for nature.  She also learned piano, ukulele, hula, ballet and jazz dance at an early age.  Lisa’s inspiration stems most notably her grandmother (an LA district elementary school teacher for 40 years) and aunt (a teacher/administrator at Waldorf for 40+ years) who nurtured her love of learning, writing and most importantly, the Aloha Spirit she brings into her everyday representation, lectures and teaching.

Lisa has a varied educational history, with a background as a paralegal in real estate in Hawaii, an AA in fashion design from FIDM in Los Angeles, a BA in political science from University of Hawaii, a JD from Thomas Jefferson School of Law in San Diego, and an LLM in International Intellectual Property from WIPO-Geneva/University of Turin-Italy.   In high school, she was fortunate to have spent 5 entire months at the Smithsonian in Washington D.C.

A frequent panelist and volunteer for various lectures and workshops on copyright, trademark and entertainment law, Lisa has given presentations at University of Turin, California Lawyers for the Arts, Thomas Jefferson School of Law, Cal Western School of Law, University of San Diego School of Law, National University in Los Angeles, as well as for other private events.

As a Professor, Lisa has taught Trademark & Unfair Competition Law and served for 3 years as the Supervising Attorney/Professor for the Thomas Jefferson School of Law Trademark Clinic, which provides pro-bono legal services to individuals, organizations, and small businesses.

She is also a member of the CCC (California Copyright Collective), California Lawyers for the Arts, San Diego Entertainment & Sports Lawyers, the California Bar Association, and regularly attends lectures at Beverly Hills Bar Association, Southwestern School of Law, and many more.

Lisa’s current loves are music, hot yoga, beaches, Italian language, travel to Italy and Europe and learning something new whenever possible.  She is increasingly passionate about the law, with a particular emphasis on fairness, preserving and recovering artists’ intellectual property.

Her daily goals include giving clients peace and comfort legally so they feel free to create great art. What gives Lisa the most happiness is seeing and celebrating her clients’ success and brilliance!
